Curriculum

Uta Weyand was born into a family of musicians and displayed an extraordinary talent for both piano and violin from childhood. After studying in Freiburg, Baltimore and Madrid with teachers including Elza Kolodin, Vitaly Margulis, Leon Fleisher and Joaquín Soriano, she gave numerous solo recitals and concerts with orchestras throughout Europe, Brazil, Cuba, Russia and the USA, collaborating with conductors including Jesús López Cobos, José Ramón Encinar, Enrique García Asensio, Manuel Galduf, Marc Tardue, Daniel Raiskin and Yves Abel.

In 1996, Uta won first prize at the “José Iturbi” International Piano Competition in Valencia, also receiving special prizes for the best interpretation of Spanish music. Since then, her repertoire has spanned every musical period, from Baroque to contemporary music, and she has distinguished herself as a passionate interpreter of the Spanish piano repertoire. She also devotes herself to unknown or neglected piano works, working closely with Michael Braunfels and Xavier Montsalvatge.

She is extensively involved in teaching, giving masterclasses and lectures throughout Europe, Brazil, Cuba and Asia. In 2000 she joined the faculty of the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castelló and, from 2002 to 2011, taught at the Royal Conservatory of Madrid. Uta regularly serves as a jury member at prestigious international competitions, including the Gina Bachauer in Salt Lake City, Franz Liszt in Weimar, Hamamatsu in Japan, Van Cliburn in Texas, Grieg Competition in Bergen and Sydney Competition in Australia.

Uta Weyand is the founder and General Director of the PIANALE International Academy & Competition and also runs the annual PIANALE Piano Festival in Germany, a high-level platform for young musicians. Her recordings for Hänssler Classics, Profil Medien and ARS Produktion have received enthusiastic critical reviews.
